Mary Kom, or Magnificent Mary as she is called by Indian sports lovers, is one of the most celebrated Indian Sportspersons. A London Olympics Bronze medalist, Mary has set records for the female boxers from across the globe to chase. A six time World Champion and six time Asian Champion aren’t the only two tags she’d carry with her, there are many other achievements as well.
Getting inspired from the achievement of Dingko Singh, Mary took to the sport and got it started in India even prior to inaugural World Championships in Women Boxing. Since then, she would become someone chasing dreams of Indian sports fraternity, one after another as she would go from one win to another in the process.
Her amazing career would fetch her 7 Asian Championships’ medals and 8 World Championships’ medals, and some records worth chasing for amateur boxers to come. The twice Olympian (London & Tokyo), would become the first female boxer from India to win an Olympic medal.
