Mumbai: Former India all-rounder Manoj Prabhakar has been named as the new Coach of Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy side. Heath Streak has been named as the consultant of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association academy.
Prabhakar was involved with Afghanistan team during the recently concluded WorldT20 as a consultant and also coached Delhi during the 2010-11 season.
Streak, Former Zimbabwe captain worked with Gujarat Lions in the recently concluded IPL as a bowling coach. He also worked with Bangladeshi bowlers during his tenure as the side’s bowling coach. Zimbabwe also used the services of Streak after the team returned to play Test cricket.
The decisions were taken during the working committee meeting of UPCA, held at Mussoorie in presence of secretary and Director Rajiv Shukla.
“Heath Streak was a fantastic bowler and well known international captain in his playing days. It will be a great opportunity for the young UP cricketers to get guidance from him. He will be coming to our academy periodically to work with academy trainees. He will draw a blueprint for academy, a roadmap that would be followed by full-time coaches,” UPCA boss Rajiv Shukla said.
Former UP captain and coach Rizwan Shamsad will now work as a selection committee chairman.
UPCA has also named Arvind Kapoor as the chairman of junior selection committee while Nitu Dwivedi will head the senior selection committee for women.
UP has performed very well in recent past and produced players such as Suresh Raina, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Piyush Chawla who have played for India. The team has been very close on winning the coveted Ranji title in the past couple of years.
Coaches and managers of U-14, U-16, U-19 were also changed.
