Kolkata: When the majority of the Indian players chose to be a part of the ISL draft in a bid to be roped in by an ISL franchise which automatically would guarantee them a good sum of money, defender Arnab Mondal decided to sign a new contract with Kolkata giants East Bengal for the upcoming football season.
Mondal had been a crucial part for Atletico De Kolkata in the ISL and has won the title with them twice in three seasons. But surprisingly, the 27-year old decided to stay away from the ISL draft and now has signed a new contract with the Red and Gold brigade at the office of the Indian Football Association (IFA) in the presence of the association members and the club officials.
He also joined the pre-season camp under the watchful eyes of coach Khalid Jamil who would be happy to have a stalwart like him in his team ahead of the CFL and the I-League.
The East Bengal side which comprises of foreign recruit Carlyle Deon Mitchell, Gurwinder Singh, Salam Ranjan Singh, Gabriel Fernandes, Lalramchullova, Rahul Ghosh and Mehtab Singh now looks all the more strong with the inclusion of Arnab Mondal.
Mondal would lead the Red and Gold brigade in the upcoming edition of the Calcutta Football League where his team would look forward to repeat their success in the tournament.
