Cricket is indeed a funny game. When you think you have seen it all, there is no more scope, the sport hits back in its own style. The modern cricket icon Virat Kohli seems to be hell bent on stretching the limits of batsmanship to now his superhuman standards.
Virat Kohli has failed even the most apt adjectives for consistency, and run scoring. He is way above the dictionary.
Let’s have a brief look at the scores from the match between RCB and KXIP. RCB scored 211 for 3. Chris Gayle blazed away 73 runs from 32 balls. Virat Kohli scored his 4th ton of this IPL season. Virat also broke the 800 run barrier for individual scores in IPL and in the process became the highest scorer in all of IPL and the first player to cross 4000 run mark in IPL.
Before the start of this season, Kohli was the fourth highest on the list. In reply Punjab could score 120 for 9 giving away the match by a massive 82 runs through D/L method. Now, the scores suggest the RCB mauling of Punjab Bowlers but the scary fact is that the match was rain hit and a shortened one of 15 overs a side.
RCB were put into bat after losing the toss and then came the beating of the tournament.
In another must win match, Bangalore openers Gayle and Kohli went berserk hitting fours and sixes off literally every ball. Both got their fifties in quick time and broke into the champion jig and that explained the mood of the batsmen, they were having fun and that were dangerous signs for the bowlers.
Kohli did the impossible with a ton in a 15 over game. RCB scored at more than 14 runs an over to score 211 for 3 and Punjab needed to better it in order to win. Punjab Batsmen came out swinging their bats from the very first ball. They connected some, missed some and got out in heaps. When the rain hit again, KXIP were 120 for 9 in 14 overs. A good 82 runs short of the target.
This win again boosts the net run rate for Bangalore to post them at the 2nd spot in the points table now.
RCB are looking unstoppable and scary for the opponents. They have come good at just the right time. To make it to the playoffs easily, they now just need to beat Delhi Daredevils in their last game. What they must remember is that 20-20 matches can be more uncertain than the form of Chris Gayle and they need to guard again st any complacency. The way they are batting right now, they look unreachable for any other team.
