Kolkata: He is unstoppable. Well, he may not have lived up to his standards against the recently concluded Test series against Australia, which India won by a margin of 2-1, yet Kohli’s stupendous form over the last one year cannot be overlooked. And as an acknowledgement, Kohli has been named the Wisden’s Leading Cricketer in the world for the year 2016.
Now, a person who is nursing a shoulder injury which he met with in the third Test in Ranchi against the Aussies, he would use this recognition as a morale booster to come back to action as fast as possible. The injury will keep him out of the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) briefly and his team the Royal Challengers of Bangalore (RCB) will be hoping that he is back on the ground soon.
Now, the latest recognition for Kohli is actually a tight slap on the faces of his Australian critics who didn’t lose the slightest of opportunities to take swipes at him. And the list includes some former cricketers too like Ian Healy, Brad Haddin and others. The Australian media even went to the extent of comparing him to animals and US President Donald Trump. Well, the Aussies never learn a lesson and it is time that they stood up and lauded the Indian captain for his outstanding contributions to the game.
Well, for Kohli, the Wisden honour is another feather in his illustrious cap and is an indication of many more to come in the future. For an ardent cricket lover, Kohli is the perfect brand ambassador of the game and having matured a lot over the years, he is an inspiration for any wannabe cricketer and sports person.
The more you attack him, the more aggressive he becomes and rest assured the comeback man will be hungrier to prove a point. As Indians we are proud of his achievements and it’s time to salute him. Congratulations King Kohli!
