“Jude Felix brings with him vast experience as former India Captain as well as a highly reputed Coach. Under him, we want to strengthen the junior core group,” said David John, director of the Hockey India’s High Performance.
“With Hockey India’s programs structured to bring good results in the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games, I would expect players from this junior core group to push the seniors for a spot in the team,” he added.
The junior hockey team has performed to their potential in recent times and will definitely improve more under the new coach.
Excited on the new job, Felix said, “I am excited to take up this new role. The junior core group was picked on the basis of their performance in the National Championships and this group will be further pruned down to a 18-member squad for the Sultan of Johor Cup, our first international tournament for this year.”
Jude had been an exceptionally good player in the Indian setup, during his playing days. He was one of India’s finest half-back, although he had started his career as an inside forward. In fact, Felix’s creative skills found an apparent match to his goal scoring knack in the half-back position.
The 1995 Arjuna awardee made more than 250 appearences for the national team, that included two World Cups and two Asian Games. He also captained the team in the 1993 World Cup and the 1994 Asian Games.
Coaching is not something very new for Jude, having been assistant coach to Terry Wick in the senior men’s hockey team in 2014.
