Jitu Rai was knocked off early in the finals of Men’s 10m Air Pistol event with a total of 78.7 points.
With qualifying for the final at 6th position with 580 points, India held its hopes high to see Jitu win a medal in the final too. With his past records like 2014 ISSF World cup’s SILVER medal. 2014 commonwealth games’ GOLD medal with a record breaking score and 2014 Asian Games’ GOLD medal for 50m air pistol event and BRONZE for 10m air pistol team event, etc; Jitu was a hope for winning a medal for the country at Rio Olympics.
Jitu Rai, in his maiden Olympics, performed average in the 1st and 2nd series and after the 3rd series got eliminated to 8th rank with a total of just 78.7 points.
The Event was beautifully won by Hoang Xuan Vinh of Vietnam whose final shot was a 10.7 pointer and clubbed up his total to 202.5 points. He was followed by Felipe Almeida Wu of Brazil winning a silver medal with 202.1 points and Pang Wei from China bagging a bronze medal with 180.4 points.
Hope is not yet over for Jitu Rai as he still has Men’s 50m Air Pistol event qualification on 10th August coming his way. He can always use his experience from today’s event for the next one.
