Ahmedabad: Days after he got his maiden Test call-up Indian pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah was greeted with some unpleasant news of his grandfather Santokh Singh Bumrah’s suicide by jumping in the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad.
Inspector Jayantilala Brahmbhatt of the Vastrapur Police Station confirmed this news.
“Bumrah’s 84-year-old grandfather was missing since Friday and the complaint was made by his daughter (Rajinder Kaur) and we were investigating the complaint and found this suicide case,” the inspector said.
Brahmbhatt further added, “Before leaving his daughter’s house, the old-aged man told his daughter that he was not allowed to meet his grandson (Jasprit) and would end his life. The grandfather spent one night in Gurudwara and then jumped in the river-front (East) side of Sabarmati river.”
The 84-year-old Santokh Singh Bumrah’s body was taken out of the Sabarmati river on Sunday morning, as confirmed by Sabarmati Riverside East Police Station Officer Dharmendra Singh Solanki.
Solanki further added that his (Santokh Singh Bumrah’s) daughter-in-law Rajinder Bumrah had filed a missing complaint at the Vastrapur Police Station on Friday.
The complaint states that Santokh Singh on December 1, had travelled to Ahmedabad from Uttarakhand to meet grandson Jasprit but he has been missing ever since he left his house in Vastrapur without the knowledge of his family members, on Friday night.
It was an attempt on his part to reconcile with his family after 17 years but he was left highly disappointed when his efforts to meet grandson Jasprit faced denial.
“It was a family dispute between the two families,” Brahmbhatt said.
“The body was sent for post-mortem before being handed over to his daughter. The last rites will be performed by his daughter.”
