Rome: London Olympics Champion Giovanni Cernogoraz of Croatia defended successfully his World Cup Trap Men title at the ISSF World Cup Final. This was the last event of the ISSF World Cup 2016 held at Rome, Italy. Erik Varga of Slovakia won silver while Antonio Bailon of Spain won Bronze.
The 2012 Olympics Champion Cernogoraz had won the Men’s Trap ISSF World Cup title at Nicosia last year, and this year he beat the current world champion Erik Varga of Slovakia in the medal match.
The last day of the ISSF World Cup say two of the best Trap Shooters compete in the Gold Medal match as they both had qualified with equal score from 14 hits at the semi-final, and it was Cernogoraz who prevailed in this final clash as he took an early lead and Varga missed his second clay in the gold medal match. Cernogoraz went forward with his perfect shot at the target as he left no chances to his opponents and completed the round with a perfect tally of 15 hits out of 15 targets, to Varga’s 14.
Speaking post the win, Cernogoraz said, “I won the world cup series last season, and it’s great to keep the ISSF Globe also this year. This is a nice way to close the season, after a disappointing result in Rio de Janeiro. I finished in 9th there.”
Adding further about the win which will motivate the ace shooter, Cernogoraz said, “Today’s victory gives me new motivations, I will take a break and start again in January to prepare for the 2017 season. I am already looking forward: the next aim is to win a quota place for Tokyo 2020.”
Speaking about the successful completion of the event, the ISSF Vice-President, and President of the Italian shotgun shooting federation FITAV, Mr. Luciano Rossi, said at the closing ceremony,”We have been extremely happy and proud to host this ISSF World Cup Final, and to invite here in Italy the best shotgun shooters of the world.”
Further showing gratitude to the Organizing Committee Workforce , he added, “I would like to thank the Organizing Committee for their excellent work, and the volunteers who helped us making this possible. And we should not forget to thank our sponsors, Beretta and Perazzi, who have been supporting us in the organization of this event.”
He also thanked ISSF Vice Presidents Gary Anderson and Vladimir Lisin.
The next edition of ISSF Shotgun World Cup Series will be held at New Delhi, India where the first world cup stage of the year will be held during February 22-March 4, 2017.
