Mumbai: Mumbai City FC have roped in Argentinian footballer Matias Defederico for the third edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) due to commence ina coupl of months’ time. Defederico has represented the national side on several occasions.
“In an effort to further reinforce and strengthen the team, Mumbai City FC has signed the South American for his style of play and his experience on the international circuit,” the club said in a media release on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old is particularly for speed and dribbling. He made his debut in Argentine domestic league for Club Atlético Huracán, but shortly switched allegiance to don the Brazilian powerhouse Corinthians colours in the national league.
Having already played in countries like United Arab Emirates, Turkey etc, this will be Defederico’s first sojourn to India and that naturally delights him to no end.
“I am really happy to have signed with Mumbai City FC. I’ve heard a lot about the club and the ISL and I am eager to start training with the team and give my all for my teammates and the fans of the club. Mumbai is a great city and I can’t wait for this new challenge in my career,” the Argentine was quoted as saying in the media release.
The Argentine playmaker shot into limelight on his debut in international arena when he scored the opening goal for Argentina against Panama in 2009. Argentina ecentually won the contest 3-1. His skills have been praised and the playmaker caught the eyes of football recruiters in South America.
