Mumbai: ISL based side Mumbai City, confirmed the signing of Leo Costa, Brazilian attacking midfielder for the upcoming ISL season.
Leo was an integral part of the Mumbai team that made it to the semi-finals last year, before losing to eventual champions Atletico De Kolkata.
Costa played 11 games for the Mumbai outfit last season, scoring two goals as the team finished as toppers in the group stage. However, he failed to make a mark in the semi-final, as the men in blue lost 3-2 on aggregate to Kolkata.
Usually an attacking midfielder the Brazilian can also play down the right flank and attack from the wings. Playing in the right flank last season he combined well with the likes of Diego Forlan and former Indian captain Sunil Chhetri. This season his combination with Indian star forward R. Satish and striker Rafa Jorda, will be interesting to watch.
With the signing of the Brazilian, Mumbai City have now completed the signing of five foreigners for the 2017-18 ISL campaign. The midfielder will join Lucian Goian, Gerson Vieira, Everton Santosh and Rafa Jordan as the foreign signings for the Mumabi outfit so far for this season.
Having already bought Lucian and Gerson who played for the team last year, the signing of Leo Costa, clearly shows the intent of the head coach Alexandre Guimaraes, who is looking to keep the core bunch of the last season to re-create the same magic again that led them to the semi-finals in the last campaign.
With the 2017-18 ISL campaign set to begin in November, teams have already completed the domestic draft signings and are now solely focused on adding foreign firepower to their teams.
Having already retained the Indian duo of Amrinder Singh and Sehnaj Singh, the signings of the five foreign players gives Mumbai City FC much more time to add more weapons to complete the 25 man squad.
With so many familiar faces in the team the men in blue will definitely be a title contender and will look to take a step further and reach the finals this time.
