Dream11, today, became the IPL 2020 Title Sponsor as the Fantasy sports giant won an INR 222 Crore title sponsorship deal for the Indian Premier League upcoming edition. The deal came as a respite to the league which had to part ways with the 440 crore deal with Chinese Phone company Vivo some times back when Vivo backed out of their deal.
The fantasy platform will thus be the IPL 2020 Title Sponsor and hold the rights for four months and 13 days. The Indian Premier League 2020 is scheduled to start on September 19 with the final to be played on November 10, 2020. The 53 days tournament will be played in UAE across the three venues Dubai, Abu Dhabi & Sharjah.
Earlier, Vivo, which annually paid INR 440 crore to the league management, dropped out as IPL 2020 title sponsor this year due to the Sino-India border situations. The popularity of Indian T20 Tournament helped the board get a sponsor in time for the league, within days of it confirming the Emirate Board of the tournament after getting a nod from the Government of India.
The league is postponed from its regular season time, April-June due to the global COVID-19 pandemic which has had impacted in sports events getting cancelled or postponed this year. The pandemic has already got the 2020 edition of the Men’s Cricket T20 World Cup cancelled.
