Kolkata: India spinner Axar Patel scored unbeaten 17-ball 38 and claimed 3 for 11 for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) to inflict the ninth defeat for the depleted Royal Challengers Bangalore in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 10 match on Friday evening.
KXIP defended a modest total of 138 as Royal Challengers Bangalore plunged to their fifth straight defeat as they were bundled out for a meagre 119 with over still to go, thus losing the encounter by 19 runs.
Patel apart, there were handful contributions from few others that took the Punjab outfit over the rope. The spinner then scalped three to put the Bangalore side in line for another disaster.
Mandeep Singh (46) was Bangalore’s top scorer following captain Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers’ cheap dismissals. Sandeep Singh was the wrecker-in-chief.
After the match, Kohli couldn’t hide his frustrations. He said he hadn’t experienced so many batting collapses ever in his career. The skipper stated that he had no idea how to describe such a batting display.
Brief scores:
Kings XI Punjab 138/7 (Axar Patel*; Aniket Chaudhary 2/17) beat Royal Challengers Bangalore 119 all out in 19 overs (Mandeep Singh 46; Axar Patel 3/11, Sandeep Sharma 3/22) by 19 runs.
