Kolkata: The Indian men’s football team has been absolutely phenomenal in the past year or so as they have scaled the FIFA rankings at a very fast rate, reaching their best ever ranking of 97 at the moment. The women’s team too, has seemed to develop and improve and according to a recent release, they have climbed up four places to reach to the 56th position in the rankings.
The Indian women’s team stands between Iraq and Hong in the Asia rankings, where they are at the 13th position.
Kushal Das, the General Secretary of the AIFF was happy with the way the women have been progressing as it was one of their priorities.
He said, “Development of Women’s Football is one of our priorities and it’s heartening to see the Women’s Team rise in FIFA Rankings. Congratulations.”
Maymol Rocky, the head coach of the women’s team also was pleased with this rise in the FIFA rankings. She said that the team has moved up the FIFA ladder as a result of hard-work.
“We’ve seen successes as well as have faced quite a few tough competitions of late. The rise in FIFA Rankings reflects our hard work which is being put in by the team relentlessly,” she said.
She also added, “Bringing in new blood and creating competition for places in the Team has been a process and I’m pleased we are moving in the right direction.”
The next FIFA ranking would be published on the 15th of December this year.
