Indian Colts held their nerves to beat Malaysia 2-1 in the Penalty Shootout after 4-4 stalemate in legal allowed time at the Olympic Games Qualifiers on Saturday.
In the women’s final, Salima Tete group lost 1-4 into China. The Championship was a qualifying event for Youth Olympic Games 2018 To be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina that will have Hockey 5’s format.
In the Men’s final, after 0-0 stalemate at the very first quarter, Malaysia got breakthrough as Mohamad Anuar scored in the 11th second only to be equalized in the 12th minute, as India upped their ante via Rahul Kumar Rajbhar. Skipper Vivek Sagar Prasad fetched India 2-1 lead with his goal in the 14th minute, which Muhammad Moharam equalized the score in the 15th minute.
India struck twice to the post in the 18th and 20th minute via Vivek Sagar Prasad & Rahul Kumar Rajbhar respectively as India took a 4-2 but slight slump in the defence in the 26th and 30th minute took them to a score of 4-4.
In the shootout, India got results from Rabichandra Moirangthem & Rahul Kumar Rajbhar while Prashant Chauhan foiled attempts from the Malaysian Side.
In the women’s final, Chinese dominated the match with a 4-0 lead from the first quarter, scored by Liu Chencheng (3′, 4′), Zou Meirong (4′) and Ma Ning (8′) which dented India’s possibilities. Though Chetna scored India’s lone goal at the 16th second, they couldn’t score more as they finished as Runners up.
