Indian Cyclists have clinched 3 medals at the Asian Road & Para Cycling Championship 2018 held at at the Wunna Theikdi Sport Stadium at Naypyidaw, Myanmar.
In the Men’s Individual Time Trial C1‐C5 event, Divij Shah won Silver by clocking 35:03.353, while Harinder Singh clocked 36:53.997 and won bronze medal. Two more Indian cyclists were close to winning medals as, Gurlal Singh (37:16.067) and Kaligoulal (42:47.220) of India finished 4th and 5th respectively.
Indian Cyclists were up for a clean sweep which they narrowly missed. In the last edition of the event at Bahrain, India, led by Aditya Mehta, had clinched three medals. Abhishek Shekhu, 25, had won gold, while silver had gone to Divij Shah and Harinder Singh had taken bronze medal.
One Major achievement for India in this tournament has been of Madhu Bagri, who won Bronze in Women’s Individual Time Trial Handcycle H1‐H5 event by clocking 37:40.507 time and she, thus, became the first Indian Para Cyclist to win an international medal in Hand Cycling.
This was Madhu’s debut on the competition circuit. She is a former national Wheelchair national tennis champion and has shifted her focus recently to para-cycling.
In the Men’s Individual Time Trial Handcycle H1‐H5 event, Prashant Arkal missed bronze medal and finished 4th by clocking 22:20.757.
