Mumbai: In the aftermath of the Uri attack which costed the lives of 18 Indian army men, BCCI Chief Anurag Thakur, on Friday, shunted all the hopes of an India-Pakistan bilateral series.
Thakur in an interaction with the media said that the priority was to expose Pakistan as a country that sponsored terrorism.
Thakur, who is also BJP’s MP and works with the youth wing of the party, while interacting with the media at the BJP national council meet stated that isolating Pakistan globally is more important.
Thakur, while interacting with media said, “India has defeated Pakistan in wars of 1965, 1971 and Kargil. It also defeated Pakistan in all World Cup cricket matches. It can decimate Pakistan anytime but it is more important to isolate it globally.”
When asked if India will play with Pakistan anytime soon, Thakur said, “In the context of what has happened even considering such a thought is not appropriate.”
BCCI’s decision of not playing with Pakistan was well supported by former India captain Sourav Ganguly. “Terrorism is an issue and you can’t play cricket (with Pakistan) when people are getting killed at the borders,” Ganguly told the media today.
Pakistan cricketers are even not allowed to participate in the cash-rich Indian Premier League since 2009. This caused a lot of good Pakistani cricketers to suffer but Indian government and the BCCI did not change their decision.
India and Pakistan had last played each other during the Asia Cup in Dhaka and the World T20 at the Eden Gardens. India had won both the matches with some tremendous performance by Indian players.
Meanwhile Pakistan also haven’t played an international match in their own country, after the terrorist attack on the bus carrying Sri Lankan players to the ground for a match in 2009.
India’s relationship with Pakistan has definitely worsen after the Uri terror attack, and it is causing everyone in the nation to suffer.
