Dharamsala: Indian middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury, as was confirmed on Saturday. He would be replaced by Washington Sundar, the young all-rounder from Tamil Nadu for the series which begins on Sunday.
According to skipper Rohit Sharma, Kedar Jadhav had been under a rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore and was supposed to be monitored on Saturday. But his failure to recover led him to be ruled out of the three-match series.
A BCCI release stated, “Mr Jadhav suffered a left hamstring injury during training on Friday, December 9 and will undergo scans. The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor him.”
His replacement Sundar, has already been selected for the T20Is against the same opponents later in the month. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder has been one of the Indian cricket’s biggest finds in recent times as after a good IPL season earlier this year, he consistently did well at the domestic level. Sundar was also the highest run-scorer and the second highest-run wicket taker in this year’s Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL).
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Washington Sundar as the replacement for Kedar Jadhav for the ODI series against Sri Lanka,” the BCCI said in a statement.
Earlier, Rohit Sharma was handed the responsibility of leading the Indian team for the limited overs’ leg against Sri Lanka after regular skipper Virat Kohli was rested, keeping in mind, the gruelling South Africa tour.
