Chamonix, France, is a staple in the IFSC World Cup series, and last year Villars welcomed top Sport Climbing athletes for a thrilling debut. This year, a new cast of world-class Lead and Speed athletes head to the renowned mountain villages to kick-off the second half of the 2017 IFSC Calendar.

In Speed, Russia dominated the first two events in China, placing two athletes on every podium. Vladislav Deulin claimed his first victory in the season opener in Chongqing and leads the men’s Speed ranking, and Stanislav Kokorin and Aleksandr Shikov have both picked up a medal. After missing the 2016 season, Mariia Krasavina has been incredible in her return, finishing second to only Russian teammate Iuliia Kaplina. Kaplina broke her own world record twice in April and has yet to be beaten this year. Joining them in Villars will be Iranian Reza Alipourshenazandifar, who scaled 15 meters in an unprecedented 5.48 seconds at Nanjing. Also be sure to follow Anouck Jaubert of France, currently ranked third in the women’s Speed rankings, as wellas 2016 season champion Marcin Dzienski of Poland.
