Chandigarh: Dashing Indian women’s cricketer and T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur on Thursday joined the Punjab Police as a Deputy Superintendent (DSP).
The stars on her uniform were pinned by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Suresh Arora, the Director General of Police (DGP).
“Proud to join DGP Suresh Arora in pinning the stars on the uniform of this young cricketer @ImHarmanpreet as she takes over as DSP in @PunjabPolice. This lady has done us proud and I’m confident she’ll continue to do so. My best wishes are with her,” tweeted Amarinder.
Harmanpreet, who was an employee of the Indian Railways thus was freed of her duties after she had requested to be a part of Punjab Police. Amarinder had taken up this matter to the Railway ministry so that they waive off the bond and allow the hard-hitting right-hander, a resident of Moga work as a DSP in Punjab.
The bond, which was signed earlier between Kaur and the Indian Railways stated that she wouldn’t be relieved of her duties towards them for a period of five year and if she opts out, then she would have to return the salary for the above-mentioned time period.
She had already completed three years of her service as an Offiice Superintendent in the Western Railways after which she resigned last year.
The DSP job was offered to Harmanpreet by Amarinder Singh, last year after he classy show in the ICC Women’s World Cup.
