Bengaluru: Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev asked banned cricketer Sreesanth to quote sufficient examples, to support his claims of enduring unfair treatment by the BCCI.
Former Indian cricketer Sreesanth was banned from the game for lifetime after his alleged role in match fixing in 2013. He has made numerous attempts to return to the game since then, filing petitions in courts for the upliftment of the ban, but BCCI has stood firm on it’s decision.
“If he (Sreesanth) thinks that way (BCCI has been biased), then he has to give enough reasons to back his claim. Every person feels he should be playing for the country but at the end of the day, only eleven players are going to play,” said the World Cup winning captain on the sidelines of Krishnapatnam Golden Eagles’ Golf Championship.
Talking of the Kerala pacer’s jibes at the Indian cricket body accusing it of biasness, Kapil however refuted to comment and said, “These are Sreesanth’s personal views. I cannot comment much on his personal views.”
Sreesanth has earlier accused the BCCI of being biased towards the other accused players and officials who were charged of match-fixing. Occasionally dragging Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who were banned by the cricket board for two years and are set to return in the next year’s IPL, Sreesanth had claimed that he too should be given a second opportunity to resurrect his career.
“All I said was that there were 13 accused and why they were treated differently. This is the only thing I asked. I never asked to reveal their names. More than anyone else, I know much better about it because I was the one who had undergone the toughest possible time,” he claimed.
However Neeraj Kumar, BCCI Chief for Anti-Corruption and Security Unit had reportedly rejected all such discrimination and bias claims again the governing body. Following which, Sreesanth had claimed that he would approach the Supreme Court, to get the lifetime ban imposed on him by the BCCI, lifted.
