Today we bring you the Umpires in IPL 2020. Umpires- the upholders of integrity in the game have been crucial behind the upliftment of cricket into the stratospheric heights that the game has achieved over the last quarter of a century. They have become the pillars of decision making in the game.
Although with the inception of the Decision Review System and the application of Third Umpires more into the scheme of things, Umpires have somewhat lost the respect they commanded previously since their decision can now be overruled any time with the help of DRS and even the third umpires.

Owing to the prevailing pandemic there was a truckload of restrictions on taking umpires to the UAE since they went through rigorous testing and like the players have had to reside in a biosecure environment for the longest duration of time. Only a select few umpires from India and overseas could be taken to the UAE. Here we talk about Umpires in IPL 2020, the guardians of rule at the cricket field.

Along with them were two umpires who have attained relative fame in recent times. They are G. Shamshuddin and Vineet Kulkarni. Both Shamshuddin and Kulkarni have had the domestic and international experience of umpiring in important games and have also performed under high-pressure situations. They have been among the prominent crop of Indian umpires who have emerged in the game in recent memory.
All of them would have the opportunity of representing India and neutral teams in more number of test matches in the future. All of the umpires though have not had a perfect IPL, to be honest since many of their decisions have been reviewed and some of the calls taken by them regarding the wide and the no-balls have been controversial so to speak.
Their excessive dependence on the third umpires for even the most obvious of decision making has baffled both the Indian as well as the International spectators from all around the world on Television. However, some of their decisions have been commendable as well as showing the kind of decision-making ability they still possess to change the course of a game. These were the Indian Umpires in IPL 2020.
International Umpires in IPL 2020
A select few international umpires have been part of the 13th edition of Indian Premier League 2020 which has been taking place in UAE under the most extraordinary of circumstances with no crowds at play. The international umpires who have been a part of this IPL campaign include the likes of Paul Rieffle, Chris Gaffaney, and Richard Illingworth.
All three of the above-mentioned umpires have had great international experience and have been part of the test and one-day international matches throughout their career. Some of them like Paul Rieffle have been a fiery fast bowler for Australia, something that would help him understand the perspective of the player better since he has been on the receiving end of harsh decisions in his cricketing career one time or the other. Due to age and health concerns, the IPL organizing committee could not organize for umpires like Ian Gould and Marias Erasmus, two of the most experienced umpires in the world today with their vast previous knowledge of representing in some of the most high profile International series and test matches in the past. Although the decision making has been somewhat slack, there is expected to be some improvement in the decision-making process with time.
Thus even if there have been some wrong decisions, the most important thing is to uphold the spirit and integrity of the game.
