Mumbai: Former Indian team director Ravi Shastri has advised Test skipper Virat Kohli to spend some time and show some fight to regain the lost touch. Kohli last scored a ton against West Indies at Antigua and since then been struggling to find fluency and form.
Shastri further added that,” “I think he will be disappointed with his shot selection in the last few innings. He has played shots which he could have avoided,” Shastri told during lunch on Day I of the second Test against New Zealand at the Eden Gardens here on Friday.
Kohli has always played aggressively and try to take on the bowlers. The problem is that he is not spending time at crease and is not trusting his defence. Shastri, who has seen Kohli from close quarters, is right when he says that Kohli is trying too hard and he is trying too many things to achieve the result.
The skipper struggled in Kanpur and now disappointed fans in Kolkata as well. The loss of form could affect Kohli’s decision making as captain and knowing Kohli he would leave no stone unturned to get back to form.
It can also be the other way round. If you’re out of form, you tend to get on quickly. You look for boundaries to build your confidence and search for a boundary early on,” he added.
Anil Kumble, head coach would like to have a quiet word with Kohli just to give him confidence and assure him that he is one of premiere batsman in world cricket. Kohli is one innings away from getting the touch and India would be hoping that it happens sooner rather than later.
