Mumbai: In a small village of the Bhiwadi district (Haryana) an event was planned for the day. However, it wasn’t some ordinary occasion, International wrestler Geeta Phogat was getting married to fellow wrestler Pawan Kumar here at Bilali. But, the event turned sensational when Bollywood star Aamir Khan showed up.
It was earlier reported that Aamir would buy Geeta’s wedding lehenga. Asked if he was able to bring the outfit for her, the actor said, “I was about to bring one for her but I later got to know that her mama (maternal uncle) is supposed to get it. But my film Dangal is my gift to her and I wish her all the best in life.”
Geeta Phogat is the inspiration behind Aamir’s upcoming movie ‘Dangal’. However it was Phogat’s arena which turned into a ‘Dangal’ soon. As the Bilali’s localites were standing on the terrace of their houses in an attempt to catch a glimpse of their favourite superstar.
It was this movie only which brought Phogats’ and Aamir close to each other. Some reports said that Aamir promised them to attend Geeta’s marriage, which he successfully fulfilled with his benign ubiety. Aamir is playing the role of Geeta’s father Mr Mahavir Singh Phogat in the to-release film ‘Dangal’. Actor Sakshi Tanwar, who is seen as her mother in the film also attended the wedding.
The wedding venue turned into a high-security zone with several policemen around it and Aamir was present for the rituals amid high security. ‘Dangal’ will hit the theatres on December 23. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film tells the story of Mahavir Phogat who teaches wrestling to his two daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari.
The former is India’s first female wrestler to win at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, where she won the gold medal (55 kg) while her sister Babita Kumari won the silver (51 kg). The film also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra.
