Mumbai: Chennaiyin FC head coach Marco Materazzi is suspended for one match of the Indian Super League for “misconduct” during his team’s match against the Kerala blasters last week. Consequently, the Italian will miss his side’s seventh match of the ISL on Wednesday.
“Chennaiyin FC head coach Marco Materazzi is suspended for one match of Hero Indian Super League 2016 with immediate effect,” the ISL said in a statement.
“Materazzi was found guilty of ‘misconduct against opponents or persons other than match officials’ under AIFF Disciplinary Committee Article 49 C for his unsporting behaviour towards a team official of the opponent team after the Hero ISL 2016 Match 26 (29th October 2016 vs Kerala Blasters FC) at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai,” the statement added.
The match between Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters concluded a 0-0 draw. Following the end of the match, Materazzi got involved in a spat between Chennaiyin’s Manuele Blaisi and Kerala’s Kervens Belfort. Materazzi defended his actions of the post match incidence insisting he was only trying to settle the dispute between the two.
Marco Materazzi has been Chennaiyin FC since the first ISL season.
Chennaiyin FC’s next match is against Mumbai City FC, who is currently sitting second on the ranking table. Chennaiyin FC has won all four matches against Mumbai City FC since the inception of the League in 2014. The match will be played at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
Chennaiyin FC is currently standing sixth on the points table with nine points after six matches.
