Kolkata: East Bengal put up another dominating performance in the ongoing Calcutta Football League, beating Railways FC 3-0 at the East Bengal ground in Monday. Striker Suhair scored a brace while debutant Jobi Justin scored his first goal for the club, helping the Red and Gold brigade remain on top of the league table having won all five of their matches so far in the league.
Playing his first match for the club Justin scored as early as the third minute, making a wonderful run into the box before firing his shot well past the Railways keeper.
Conceding an early goal, foreigner less Railways put up back to back attacks in an attempt to equalise, but the defence led by Gurwinder stayed firm to clear all threats. Railways also missed a couple of opportunities, with their best chance of the opening half coming in the seventh minute of the match, when Mithun Saha failed to put the ball into the open net, to level the scores.
Justin who was brilliant throughout the match, had a hand in the second goal, when his cheeky back heel in the 68th minute from a Subrabuddin cross, was scored on the rebound by forward VP Suhair.
The 83rd minute saw Suhair score his second and the club’s third goal in the match. A brilliant run by Laldanmawia Ralte down the left channel saw him dribble past a Railways’ defender with ease, before putting forward a wonderful ball into the box. Suhair who was present in the box poached into the ball, scoring from a simple tap-in to take the match away from the Railways.
The game could have seen more goals from both sides, had their forwards been more lethal in front of the goal. Al-Amnah who had a brilliant match in the midfield controlling the proceedings was declared the Man on the Match.
Managing the team in his first season Khalid Jamil seems to have installed an attacking mindset inside his players, as the red and gold brigade looks to ease past all their opponents to win the league for a record 39th time.
