Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting Club came from behind to register a dominating 5-2 win over Peerless AC in the ongoing Calcutta Football League on Saturday at the Barasat Stadium.
The kick-off was delayed due to insufficient light and the Black Panthers not only missed a lot of chances but also looked to be weak in defence during the initial stages of the game.
Although they came up with strong moves, they couldn’t open the scoring and Peerless rightfully capitalised on the same, gaining a lead in the 18th minute through Sukwinder Singh who netted home a beautiful pass by Rahim Nabi.
Having scored a goal, Peerless chose to defend and thus they thwarted all of Mohammedan Sporting’s attacks as they were the happier side going into the break at 1-0.
The second half saw Mohammedan Sporting come out with an intent and fire. Six minutes into the second half, Jiten Murmu converted a beautiful cross by Dowary and headed the ball into the net to level the scores, much to the relief of their fans.
Their attack didn’t stop as within a short period of time, star striker Dipanda Dicka found his name on the scoresheet and hardly anyone guessed that this would be the beginning of something indeed bigger and better for the Black Panthers.
In the 69th minute, Dipanda scored his second and team’s third goal in the match. Although Peerless looked threatening at times, they couldn’t stop the men in Black and White.
Dowary further scored another goal at the 80th minute and made it 4-1 before Nigerian striker Franchis Oneyama scored one for Peerless at the end of regulation time.
Dicka completed his hattrick of a wonderful ball by Jiten Murmu and also ended up registering one of the most emphatic wins in the CFL in recent times.
Through this win, Mohammedan Sporting now have nine points in their bag from the four matches they have played so far.
