Kolkata: A 32-year-old man from the East Midnapore in West Bengal has been arrested by the police for allegedly stalking Sara Tendulkar, the daughter of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.
A complaint had been lodged by Sara against the stalker at the Bandra Police station after which the cops took action.
The man, identified as Debkumar Maity had made as many as 20 calls to Sachin Tendulkar’s residence and had made marriage proposals to her.
“I saw her on tv sitting at the pavilion during a match and fell in love…I want to marry her. I fetched the landline number of Tendulkar and have called on it some 20 times…Have never seen her in person,” Maity said to the police.
Maity’s family has claimed that he is unemployed and a college dropout. They also revealed that Maity is suffering from mental illness and has been undergoing treatment for the last eight years.
“We had no idea how he got embroiled in this case. Even at home he used to torture his parents. He lost his father recently. He has been undergoing medical treatment for his condition for last eight years,” one of his relatives said.
The police also has recovered a diary from Maity’s house where he referred to Sara as his wife. His relatives also said that Debkumar can paint well.
A medical investigation is also slated to take place to figure out as if Maity is mentally ill or not.
The police caught hold of Maity with the help of the telephone tower using which he had made those calls to Sara. He was produced at a district court on Sunday and has been taken to Mumbai for further investigation.
