New Delhi: The BCCI on Saturday announced cash rewards for the victorious Indian U-19 team after they clinched their fourth title, defeating Australia by eight wickets at the Bay Oval.
The bowlers led by Ishan Porel (2/30), Kamlesh Nagarkoti (2/41), Anukul Roy (2/32) and Shiva Singh (2/36) set up the win as they bowled out Australia for just 216 in 47.2 overs. Left-handed opener Manjot Kalra then led the chase with a brilliant century (101*) and he was supported by wicket-keeper batsman Harvik Desai (47*) to win the match in just 38.5 overs.
The BCCI would reward coach Rahul Dravid with Rs 50 lakh and all the players would get Rs 30 lakh each. The members of the support staff would get Rs 20 lakh each.
Committee of Administrators chairman Vinod Rai along with member Diana Edulji heaped praise on the team and coach Dravid for winning the World Cup.
Vinod Rai said, “I congratulate the U-19 team who have made the country proud. Head Coach Rahul Dravid played his cricket with sincerity and it was pleasing to see the boys uphold the value. They have been fantastic athletes and even better ambassadors. The boys have done so well, and I am sure they will work hard and climb the ladder and represent the senior team in the future.”
Edulji, a former women’s cricketer also credited BCCI for the various initiatives taken by them in nurturing young talent.
“The consistent performance is a testimony to the fact of BCCI’s initiative in nurturing the talent and providing them an environment to the youngsters and perform to their potential. I congratulate Rahul Dravid and his team for returning home with the glittering ICC World Cup,” she said.
