So, finally all the Australian Open 2021 Champions are decided. While it was only a matter of time for the Serbian powerhouse to come triumphant at the 2021 edition of the championship he has won the most. In Women’s Singles, Naomi Osaka of Japan won the tournament title while in doubles pairs of Ivan Dodig- Filip Polášek, Elise Mertens- Aryna Sabalenka & Barbora Krejčíková – Rajeev Ram became the Australian Open 2021 Champions. Joachim Gérard, Diede de Groot, Dylan Alcott, Alfie Hewett – Gordon Reid, Diede de Groot-Aniek van Koot and Dylan Alcott-Heath Davidson won in Wheelchair tennis.
Djoker extends his Australian Open Record
When Novak Djokovic came to Melbourne Park this year, he was on a chase to the most grand slam record of the other two ATP legends of this generation, Roger Federer & Rafael Nadal. While Nole had his grand slam tally at 17, the other two are at 20-each. Novak had his task cut out and he did what the two time defending champion was supposed to. Finally, it was the 3 set win over Daniil Medvedev won him his 18th grand slam.
Road to 9th title win
Djoker started his Australian Open 2021 campaign with a 3 set win over Jérémy Chardy of France. It was an easy win for the Serbian great as he would win 6-3 6-1 6-2 in straight sets. In the second round, he had a tough match against Frances Tiafoe of USA, despite winning the first set 6-3. Tiafoe won the second set 7-6 (7-3) in tie breaker.
The tennis superstar won a tough 3rd set 7-6 (7-2), and won the fourth set 6-3 to move to the third round. Up against Taylor Fritz of USA in the third round, he won the 5 set thriller 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 3-6 4-6 6-2. His fourth round match was decided in 4-sets against Milos Raonic. Nole won this match 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-1 6-4. With this win, the top seed Djokovic set a clash against Alexander Zverev of Germany.
The Serbian Superstar would face the challenge of the tournament perhaps in this match as Zverev would win the first set 7-6 (8-6). The second & third sets were easy for Nole as he won these two 6-2 6-4. The decider went into tie-breaker as Nole would win it 7-6 (8-6). With this win he moved to the semifinal match against Russian Aslan Karatsev, who became the first Russian to reach a Grand Slam semifinal post 2000 Wimbledon.
The eventual Australian Open 2021 Champion would win this match in straight sets 6-3 6-4 6-2 as he entered title clash against Daniil Medvedev. The Serbian Sensation triumphed this final obstacle 7-5 6-2 6-2.
Osaka wins her second Australian Open title
In the Women’s Singles, Naomi Osaka of Japan became the Australian Open 2021 Champion as she won her second title; Osaka won her first title in 2019. The Japanese sensation would defeat Jennifer Brady of USA in the final 6-4 6-3 in straight sets. On her road to the title, Osaka won 6-2 6-2 against Hsieh Su-wei in quarterfinals while her 6-3 6-4 win over Serena Williams ended the possible extension to Williams’ grand slam tally, also increasing doubts about her reaching close to Margaret Court‘s tally.
With this win, Naomi set the title clash against Jennifer Brady who had reached her first grand slam final. Osaka won this match 6–4 6–3 in straight set as she got her name added to Australian Open 2021 Champions.
Other Australian Open 2021 Champions:
In the men’s doubles, Croatian- Slovakian pair of Ivan Dodig- Filip Polášek defeated USA-UK pair of Rajeev Ram-Joe Salisbury 6–3 6–4 in straight sets. In the women’s doubles, Belgian- Belarusian pair of Elise Mertens & Aryna Sabalenka won 6–2 6–3 against Czech pair of Barbora Krejčíková & Kateřina Siniaková. In the mixed doubles of Australian Open 2021 tournament, Czech-USA pair of Barbora Krejčíková & Rajeev Ram won 6–1 6–4 against Australian pair of Samantha Stosur & Matthew Ebden. Joachim Gérard, Diede de Groot, Dylan Alcott, Alfie Hewett – Gordon Reid, Diede de Groot-Aniek van Koot and Dylan Alcott-Heath Davidson became Australian Open 2021 Champions in Wheelchair Tennis.
