Perth: India A suffered an embarrassing 4-0 defeat at the hands of Queensland in the Australian Hockey League match on Friday.
Courtesy goals from Matthew Pembroke (5th minute), Hugh Pembroke (20th minute), Joel Rintala (42nd min) and Jacob Anderson (54th min), Queensland booked a place for themselves in the final of the tournament.
The Indians conceded a penalty corner early on in the game and Queensland pounced on every opportunity presented to them. Thus Matthew Pembroke made full use of the penalty in only the fifth minute to give his side the lead in the game.
Adding to their woes, the Indians couldn’t capitalise on the chances and thus failed to score even a single goal. The second quarter too was dominated by Queensland and this time it was Hugh Pembroke, who made the score 2-0 in their favour through an excellent well-executed goal.
The visitors squandered the opportunity of drawing back one goal for themselves but failed to slot one in from the penalty corner.
But Queensland continued with their dominance in the third quarter as well as Joel Rintala netted his team’s third of a beautiful team-move. Their defence was equally strong as it stopped the Indians from clawing back into the game.
With six minutes remaining for the match to end, Queensland scored their fourth and final goal through Jacob Anderson, who kept a cool head and netted a field goal in the 54th min to register a thumping win over the visitors.
India A, now would fight for a third place finish when they take New South Wales on Sunday.
