Mumbai: What future holds for Indian cricket once again became clearer with Akhil Herwadkar’s bombshelling performance in the four-day unofficial Test match against Australia A, at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
The youngster prospered with his sparkling 82 on the second last day of the series. The all-rounder opening batsman enthralled the stadium through his spectacular six boundaries and three sixes against Australia A.
After Indian bowlers bowled Australia A out for 435, it was openers Akhil Herwadkar and Faiz Fazal who stitched together a partnership of 84 runs in 30 overs for India. Such admirable opening stand engrossed hopes in viewers’ eyes; but slowly, clouds of despairs started to corral as first four wickets went down in quick succession.
Fazal was the first man to go back who lost his wicket at 29 and then the rest three departed after an addition of another 16 runs. Under such crisis, it was this duo of Herwadkar and Sanju Samson Who again raised the bar of expectation,at the close of 3rd day.Moreover, with such a performance, somewhere Herwadkar has hatched utopia for a tremendous final match of the series.
The 21-year-old lad who hailed from a small town — Jaysingpur — is the vivid example for those who backs their failure with talent, hard work and adaptability.
