The boys’ and girls’ finals for Rendez-Vous à Roland-Garros in partnership with Longines will take place today, Saturday 27 May at Roland-Garros stadium. The matches will start at 1pm French time on Court No.6 as part of Roland-Garros Kids’ Day.
Abhimanyu Vannemreddy will take on Hikaru Shiraishi from Japan in the boys’ finals. The Bengaluru boy will hope to continue with his good form, and win the tournament to secure a wild card for the main boys’ singles draws in the Junior French Open, which will take place from 4 to 10 June at Roland-Garros stadium.
Earlier, Abhimanyu Vannemreddy had replaced Siddhant Banthia (winner of the event in India who got injured while Abhimanyu was finalist of the same event) is into the finals to be played today in Paris.
Six boys and six girls aged under 18 took part in these group matches in the hope of winning spots in the main draw of the juniors’ tournament, which will take place on the courts at Roland-Garros from 4 to 10 June. Each of these players qualified at clay-court tournaments in their home countries earlier this year: in Yokohama, Japan (Yokohama Country and Athletic Club), from 28 February to 3 March; Florianopolis, Brazil (Lagoa Iate Club) from 9 to 12 March; Nanjing, China (China Tennis Academy), from 14 to 17 March; Delhi, India (Delhi Lawn Tennis Association), from 17 to 19 April; Miami, United States (Boca West Country Club), from 19 to 22 April; and Seoul, South Korea (Seoul Ansung Tennis Club), from 27 April to 1 May. In all, 667 players participated in these qualifying stages.
