In the semifinal of DSK Cup 2016, Punjab’s Minerva AFC will play DSK Shivajians FC ‘A’ on November 18. Earlier, in the second quarterfinal of the tournament, Minerva AFC defeated Mumbai FC 4-2 on penalty shootouts.
The Match
The second quarterfinal had to decide the team which would play DSK Shivajians “A” side in the first semifinal of the DSK Cup 2016. The second match of the quarterfinal featured I-League powerhouse Mumbai FC, and Punjab’s very own Minerva AFC. A match which saw aggression from both side, also saw neither team take a decisive stamp on the game in regulation time. In the Extra Time, the game turned into a physical duel with both sides jostling for every inch of possession that was up for grabs, without any inroads to either goal post.
In the penalty shootout which followed, Minerva AFC finally made the most of the lottery. Minerva got Kareem Omalaja, Manandeep Singh, Altamash Sayed, Thounaojam Jackson Singh hitting the back of the goalpost while Vaibhav Kapre and Hitesh Sharma scored for Mumbai FC in the shootout.
It was misses by Cletus Paul and Manuel D’Souza which decided the match in favor of FC Minerva as the final scorecard read Minerva AFC 4-2 Mumbai FC on penalties.
Earlier, in the first quarterfinal, DSK Shivajians ‘A’ beat their city rivals FC Pune City ‘A’ 1-0 to move to the semifinals. The two sides DSK Shivajians ‘A’ & FC Minerva will meet in the first Semi Final on the 18th of November.
