Mumbai: The Indian boxer expressed that demonetisation of the country’s currency by the Narendra Modi Government has brought on record large amounts of ‘danger money’ possessed by notorious people.
Olympian boxer and newly nominated member of the Rajya Sabha, M C Mary Kom recently came forth in support of Modi Government’s decision to demonetise 500 and 1000 rupee notes.
Adding on Tuesday that the move will help arrest grassroots corruption ailing the country. “I am with Prime Minister Modi ji in his endeavor to check black money and corruption. This will do good to the people and the country by stalling the juggernaut of black money and corruption,” she told reporters at an event.
Reverting to a query, on the reports of the serpentine queues at the ATMs and banks and several other problems the common man is facing due to this sudden move, the Olympic bronze medalist said that the hardships and difficulties is a setback, but a temporary one nevertheless.
The internationally acclaimed pugilist Kom emphasised that that the surprise demonetisation of the 500 and 1000 rupee bills has made sure large amounts of black money in possession of ‘shady people’ has been rendered useless to them and been brought to light, by adding back to the country’s economy with nearly immediate effect. “This step of the Prime Minister has brought out in the open the huge proportion of the black money possessed by shady people,” she said.
“Yes people are facing problems and hardships, but that will be for a brief period. This also is an experience in itself. It teaches people how to handle such situations,”
On Mary Kom’s nomination to the prestigious Upper House; The Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday approved of a list of six nominated members to the Rajya Sabha, reserved for achievers in various spheres of public life.
The Rajya Sabha holds a total of 12 members, which includes her name along with senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, former Test cricket veteran and BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu amongst others.
