Kolkata: India and Pakistan don’t see eye-to-eye over the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) imbroglio. Soldiers are getting killed and the relations between the two countries are at an all-time low. India is trying hard to isolate Pakistan diplomatically and Pakistan on the other hand is going the whole hog to expose the so-called atrocities on innocent Kashmiris. US President-elect Donald Trump has expressed his desire to mediate between the two nations to solve the dispute. But the tension persists. Uri and the subsequent surgical strikes by India only aggravate the situation.
However, Tajamul Islam (7) hailing from the Tarkpora village in the Bandipora district of the state brings laurels to India winning the World Kickboxing Championship in the Under-8 category in Italy. Her father, Ghulam Mohammad Lone, is employed as a driver with construction company. But that has not prevented him to push his daughter Tajamul to reaching greater heights in martial arts. Tajamul and her two sisters and two brothers are students of an academy run by Faisal Ali Dar who sees a lot of potential in the little girl and she hasn’t let him down. Just before the Children’s Day, India couldn’t have asked for a more precious gift especially coming from a Kashmiri girl.
On one hand, some students from J&K qualify to study in various branches of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in the country, on the other hand, a kid from the state does India proud when the two countries are occupied fighting each other at the borders.
After Pervez Rasool who represented the Indian cricket team at the international level, Tajamul’s feat deserves accolades. It also sends the message across the border, that India is J&K and vice-versa despite the age-old stalemate over the state. One more child prodigy from India and this time from J&K.
