Mumbai: Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan ruled out of the third and final Test in Indore starting from 8th October after suffering a minor fracture with Karun Nair as his replacement, as reported on Monday.
The fracture was due to the injury caused by New Zealand’s Trent Boult’s bouncer, jabbing his left thumb twice on Sunday.
He was advised for a checkup by the team doctor, so the aggravation of pain can be avoided and was soon taken to a city hospital.
He didn’t take on the field of Eden Gardens on Monday and is now recommended 15 days of rest, ruling him out of the third Test starting on 8th of October in Indore, as confirmed by India’s media manger, “A very minor fracture has occurred and he has been recommended 15 days rest, which effectively rules him out of the next Test.”
“Selectors have been informed about his status,” he added.
Dhawan’s able replacement Karun Nair, the right-hand batsman is all geared up to take his place in the third Test in Indore.
Nair has showed us great promise in the two ODIs he played for the home team.
“The All-India Senior Selection Committee have named batsman Karun Nair as the replacement for injured opener Shikhar Dhawan in the Indian team,” BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke said in a statement.
India bagged in a 178-run win over the Kiwis in the second Test with a 2-0 lead in a three-Test series in Kolkata.
India is finally on the pedestal as No.1 in Test rankings, keeping behind Pakistan.
