Today we bring you the 25 players featuring in MI Squad for IPL 2021. The Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians ended their 2020 Indian Premier League season with their 5th title as they won two back to back tournaments. The Wankhede Stadium based side look forward to their third title back to bacl, let’s see who are the 25 members of MI Squad for IPL 2021.
Arjun Tendulkar
Junior Tendulkar is a left-arm medium pacer and a left handed lower order batsman, something that is different from his father and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar. Arjun took 1/34 against Haryana on his Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy debut match for Mumbai. Tendulkar is part of the MI squad for IPL 2021 and may very well be seen sharing the dressing room with the master himself, though Sachin would be there as the team Mentor.
Marco Jansen
Proteas All-Rounder Marco Jansen is among the brigade of all-rounders who would like to outshine unidimensional players this season. Jansen is member of the MI squad for IPL 2021, after he was chosen by the team at the auction table this season.
Yudhvir Charak
Hyderabad Right-Arm Medium Fast Bowler Yudhvir Singh Charak has got the challenge to sneak into the strong Mumbai Indians bowling unit comprising Bumrah, Boult, Coulter-Nile, Chahar & Pandya. It will be however a learning curve for the Indian domestic cricketer to share the dressing room with some of the amazing cricketers of world cricket.
James Neesham
New Zealand All-rounder Jimmy Neesham will be part of the MI squad for IPL 2021 after being picked by the Rohit Sharma led team during auctions. Neesham was released by Kings XI Punjab this year as the all-rounder failed to deliver what he is known for, for the Mohali based franchise.
Piyush Chawla
Uttar Pradesh Leg Spinner no longer plays international cricket though he has been a regular face in IPL cricket. Piyush Chawla was picked by the Mumbai side to be part of MI squad for IPL 2021 after he was released by the Chennai Super Kings before the season. Chawla has played a few seasons for Kolkata Knight Riders too.
Adam Milne
New Zealand Pace bowler Adam Milne was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore for season 2016 & 2017. Milne is making a comeback to the T20 tournament and he was picked by the Wankhede Stadium side during the auctions. With Milne, the Mumbai Indians would be expecting their pace attack to go stronger in the 2021 season.
Nathan Coulter-Nile
Australian Medium pacer was released and re-bought by Mumbai Indians this season, this time at a lower cost. Coulter-Nile picked 15 wickets in IPL 2017 and IPL 2015. He picked just 5 wickets in the 2020 season for Mumbai and the Wankhede team would expect better from this bowler, though he could well be the third seamer for the MI squad for IPL 2021.
Mohsin Khan
Uttar Pradesh Left arm medium pacer will be part of the MI squad for IPL 2021 as well. Mohsin Khan was picked by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018 and since then he’s been part of the side, though he’s still looking for his chance of career.
Dhawal Kulkarni
Mumbai Right-Arm Medium Bowler Dhawal Kulkarni has played for Mumbai Indians during IPL 2008-2013 and came back to the side in IPL 2019. He has been a key member of the side but since Bumrah and Boult pair came into existence, he’s slowly gone back into oblivion. He is an experienced player in first class cricket and knows the Indian conditions very well, but it is still to be seen whether he gets a game for Mumbai this season.
Anukul Roy
Jharkhand all-rounder Anukul Roy came into IPL fold in 2018 season with Mumbai Indians. He’s since then part of the team though he got just one game, that too in IPL 2018. After than game, he has been on the field only as a substitute fielder picking some outstanding catches. Roy would expect this season to be a game changer for his career, though it is uphill challenge to sneak into a team with 3-4 all-rounders consistently playing and among performers.
Ishan Kishan (WK)
The Jharkhand Wicket-keeper batsman is already the talk of town after his T20I debut match performance. Ishan Kishan will be a key member of the MI squad for IPL 2021 as well as his performances in previous season has done as a top order batsman. The wicket-keeper in him is largely unused in presence of Quinton de Kock, the senior pro.
Suryakumar Yadav
The Mumbai middle order batsman has already been among runs for the Reliance Industries Limited owned side and was a key match winner for the team during IPL 2020. Surya can destroy any bowling unit and that’s what Mumbai would expect from this batsman who’s looking in wonderful touch this season as well as you can predict from his Syed Mushtaq Ali performances.
Chris Lynn
Australian Right handed batsman is known to be clean hitter of leather ball. Lynn wasn’t a part of the corona hit last season, but would be eager to score runs this season as a member of MI squad for IPL 2021. Chris Lynn had played some blistering innings for Kolkata Knight Riders in Indian Premier League 2017. Mahela Jayawardene coached side would expect similar exploits from him this season to claim a hat-trick of IPL title.
Saurabh Tiwary
Jharkhand left handed explosive batsman started off well in IPL and scored 400+ runs in Indian Premier League 2010. Tiwary’s performance, since then, hasn’t been the same as he hasn’t crossed 200 runs mark in any season. Saurabh Tiwary would like to change the statistics this year, but it will be interesting to see how many chances he gets this season as a member of a strong MI squad for IPL 2021.
Anmolpreet Singh
Punjab Cricketer Anmolpreet Singh is still searching for his debut match, though he’s been part of the Mumbai based franchise since 2019. Anmolpreet is said to have a class of Shubman Gill type, though the latter has already been going uphill with his performances and has already made to the Indian Test team.
Aditya Tare (wk)
Mumbai Wicket-keeper batsman has played for Delhi Capitals & Sunrisers Hyderabad too in the Indian Premier League tournament. Tare is part of MI squad for IPL 2021 as well, he was part of the side that won the first trophy in IPL 2013. Tare, at best, is third choice as wicket-keeper batsman with de Kock & Ishan Kishan among runs, his chances would be just a few, if any.
Kieron Pollard
The West Indies all-rounder was recently in news for smacking 6 sixes in an over in a T20 international match. The Mukesh Ambani owned side would expect a similar season for their middle order rockstar as part of MI squad for IPL 2021, if they want to go for their 6th IPL title. Pollard’s best has seen even the mishits travel far and wide.
Hardik Pandya
The Indian all-rounder has become a key member of the Mumbai Indians and the Indian limited overs teams as well. His performances with bat are the things to watch in cricket and some bowling performances here and there are just the icing on the cake. Hardik Pandya would be a key member of the MI squad for IPL 2021 as well as he, Pollard, Surya & Krunal make the team the strongest among the IPL teams.
Krunal Pandya
The senior among the Pandya Brothers is a left arm spinner and left handed batsman. A useful lower order player, Krunal has been used by the Mumbai team as a pinch hitter up the order as well. Krunal is supposed to be another regular face in the MI squad for IPL 2021, in fact their playing XI.
Rahul Chahar
The Rajasthan Leg spinner picked one wicket per match for the Mumbai team in IPL 2019 & 2020 and the Nita Ambani owned team would expect a better season for Chahar in 2021 as he would play his fourth season of Indian Premier League.
Jayant Yadav
The Indian Test centurion is a decent all-rounder with loopy off-break deliveries and classic approach of batting. His International matches have been few and he hasn’t had that success even in IPL as the chances have been few and scattered. The Delhi all-rounder is looking for a game changing chance in Indian Premier League as a member of the MI squad for IPL 2021, whether he gets that or not is something to be seen.
Jasprit Bumrah
Boom Boom has been his nickname and he has bombed the batsmen with below the bat deliveries, yorking them out more often than not. Jasprit Bumrah will be a crucial member of the MI squad for IPL 2021 as well as the medium pacer would like to extend his lead over batsmen in this season as well after picking 27 wickets in IPL 2020.
Trent Boult
The New Zealand pace spearhead was traded by the Delhi Capitals to Mumbai Indians before IPL 2020 and he picked 25 wickets from the season to prove it a great trade. Boult’s 25 & Bumrah’s 27 were jointly the best bowling pair of the season along with Delhi Capitals’s pair of Kagiso Rabada (30) & Anrich Nortje (22).
Quinton de Kock (WK)
The Proteas Wicket-keeper batsman scored 500+ runs for the Mumbai Indians as their second most scorer in IPL 2020 behind Ishan Kishan. QDK would like to have more match winning performances with his bat as an Opener in the MI squad for IPL 2021. de Kock, SKY & Ishan Kishan took the responsibility of scoring runs in a season when their most prolific scorer Rohit Sharma was limited to 300 plus runs only.
Rohit Sharma (c)
The Mumbai Indians’ Captain would like to strike gold with his bat this season as the team will be going after the second back-to back trophy this season as well. Rohit has upped the performance parameters by some notches and 3-4 fifties from a season is something which isn’t seen as a good performance.
Phase 2 in UAE, Changes in MI Squad for IPL 2021 :
Due to corona outbreak in India, the season was stopped post Match number 29 and all the remaining matches were shifted out of India to be held during September-October at UAE. With the changes in season schedules, there were withdrawals and new additions to the squads. Mumbai Indians, however, remained unaffected by the schedule changes as they didn’t face any withdrawal issues.
These were the cricketers who make the squad of Mumbai Indians for Indian Premier League 2021 season. This is it for today! Hope your liked the content; don’t forget to put in your thoughts & questions as comments.
