Bangkok: Today, Pankaj Advani became the first ever Indian snooker player to win a Bronze Medal at Sangsom 6 Red Snooker World Championships despite losing his semi final to Ding Junhui of China. His performance can be seen as one of the best from an Indian in World Snooker. This is the first time an Indian has won a medal at the prestigious tournament.
In the semifinal, Junhui outdo the 31-year-old Indian by 7-4 (0-37, 68-0 (64), 73-0 (73), 49-26, 49-15, 7-57, 0-63, 67-0 (67), 67-0 (67) 20-34, 69-9). Advani, before this match against the Chinese, earlier got a walkover from Michael Holt of England in the quarterfinals when the British player withdrew due to personal reasons making it easy for the Indian to reach semi-finals.
Speaking further, about the Chinese whom he lost to in the semifinal, the Ace Indian Snooker player said, “Ding is a phenomenal player. I got the better of him in the group stage but today he was the better player. I wish him best of luck for the finals.”
