The Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza and Czech Barbara Strycova had a great outing against American Nicole Gibbs and Japanese Nao Hibino where they defeated latter 6-4, 7-5 to reach the women’s doubles quarterfinals at the US Open.
In the quarter finals, the seventh seed Indo- Czech pair play the top seeded French duo of Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic. After ouster of Bopanna and Paese with their respective mixed doubles partner, Sania is the sole hope for India at this edition of US Open.
Forming the pair with the Czech Strycova after splitting with the Iconic Player Martina Hingis, Sania-Strycova had won Cincinati Open title to announce this new partnership.
Paes and Hingis, defending Champions of mixed doubles had crashed out in the second round in their match against American seventh seeds, Coco Vandeweghe and Rajeev Ram.
Bopanna and Dabrowski fought hard before losing their mixed doubles quarterfinals against Canadian-German pair of Robert Farah and Anna-Lena Groenefeld before bowing out 6-1 2-6 8-10 in the super tie-breaker.
