Today we talk about the top 5 batsmen who scored the most runs in Cricket World Cup 1975. The 1975 Prudential World Cup had 8 participating teams. They were divided into two groups of 4 sides each. Each team had to play the 3 others in its group. The top 2 sides from each group went to the semis.
The World Cup consisted of 60 over matches though most of them remained on the low scoring note. This is because of the fast tracks in England and the high-quality bowling attacks of most teams. We take a look at the top 5 batsmen who scored the most runs in Cricket World Cup 1975.
5. Allen Turner (Australia)
The Aussie left-hander was one of the star batsmen in the inaugural edition of the cricket world cup. Turner scored 201 runs in the 5 innings he played at the average of just above 40. These runs got him into the top 5 batsmen who scored the most runs in Cricket World Cup 1975.
He scored his maiden and only century in the league match against Sri Lanka. It was a quick-fire knock with Turner taking only 113 balls to score 101 runs thus maintaining a strike rate of almost 90. The hard-hitting left-hander became the first Australian batsman to score a 100 in One Day Internationals. Turner proved to be one of the important players for his team’s march to the 1975 World Cup final.

This included a century and a half-century thus indicating Fletcher’s great consistency throughout the important tournament. His average, as well as strike rate, was 69, thus playing a great part in his team’s journey towards the semi-final stage. Fletcher remained a worthy batsman for England in all his test and ODI career. He could also bowl those slow and efficient leg breaks thus was an important member of the team.
3. Majid Khan (Pakistan)
The Pakistan team could not move past the group matches stage in the 1975 Cricket World Cup. However, their top batsman and vice-captain Majid Khan made a great contribution with the bat. Turner was the best and most consistent batsman of the 1975 Cricket World Cup. He was the only batting star to score more than 300 individual runs in the whole series, registering a total of 333 runs in the 4 matches he played. These runs were the most runs in Cricket World Cup 1975 scored by an Individual. The Kiwi captain and opener scored a massive 171 not out against a mellow East African bowling attack in his very first match of the tournament. He then followed it with another century, scoring a 114 not out against the Indian side.
Turner averaged a massive 166 in the tournament as he was not out twice. He also maintained a good strike rate of more than 68 in the tournament.
