Both Indian women archers Deepika Kumari and Bombayla Devi Laishram disappointed the hundreds of Indians glued to their television sets as both of them lost in the the Round of 16 having India out of Women’s Individual Archery Event of the Rio Games 2016 all together.
On one side, Deepika competed with Tan Ya-ting from Chinese Taipei. Ya-tng won by three straight sets giving Deepika no chance for the fourth to salvage some pride and walked into the quarter finals.
On the other hand, Bombayla Devi competed with Alejandra Valencia of Mexico and at least gave some competition to her counter by bagging the second set. But she also eventually lost after Valencia‘s win in the two consecutive sets that followed.
Though India’s best archer, they couldn’t be good enough for winning a medal in Rio Olympics 2016.
India’s woes continued with more exits coming from other disciplines. Shiva Thapa couldn’t pass the first hurdle when he lost to Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramirez Carrazana in the men’s bantamweight 56 KG category.
However, still with no medal in sight India failed to appear on the medals’ tally with the United States leading the pack with already 32 medals which include 11 yellow metal. Asian powerhouses China and Japan occupy the second and third spot with 23 and 18 medals respectively.
