New Delhi: MC Mary Kom and Manoj Kumar would lead the country’s charge in the Commonwealth Games as the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) named it’s squad for the competition, scheduled to be held in Gold Coast, Australia later this year.
Pinki Rani would lead India’s charge in the 51kg category after she put up a dominating display en route to her gold medal at the Indian Open. Laisharam Devi (60kg) and Lovlina Boroghain (69kg) are the other female pugilists, who would hope to make the country proud in the competition.
Manish Kaushik’s powerful performances against Shiva Thapa in the past enabled him to make the cut for the Commonwealth Games in the men’s 60kg category. Vikas Krishnan and Manoj Kumar would be leading India’s challenge in the men’s department.
Amit Bhangal, who had showcased a heroic effort in the Strandja Memorial Tournament has also made it to the squad. Hussain Mohammed too has made the cut in the 56kg category.
Gaurav Solanki (52kg) and World Youth Bronze medalist Naman Tanwar (91kg) were the late inclusions to the team after they won their trials at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Sunday.
