Bengaluru: On a roll with four consecutive wins, that amounts to six if the two AFC matches are taken into consideration, Bengaluru FC will seek revenge when they take on Goa at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Friday.
‘The Blues’ with 11 wins in 14 games and just four defeats are currently at five points clear at the top and almost certain of making the play-offs but FC Goa are not far. On 20 points from 12 matches the ‘Gaurs’ are on fifth but just three behind Chennaiyin on third.
It was a seven goal thriller when both the teams last squared off with Goa eventually coming out victorious. But it won’t be the same on Friday warned Bengaluru coach Albert Roca. In that game, we had our chances we didn’t take them.
He however showed enough respect for his opponent. “But we knew we were playing against a really good team. Tomorrow we will be playing against a team which I think will be in the top four. They are a good team and they have good players,” said the former Barcelona coach.
Goa on the other looked to be the most threatening team with hat-trick of wins in five matches but has since then gone on to lost three and draw two in the next seven, while winning just three.
While scoring goals have never been a big problem for them — they have score the highest (29) goals —- Defending has surely been one massive — which meant they have conceded the second highest goals (23) this term.
But Goa assistant coach Derek Pereira brushed it aside saying it was a part of their play. “I think we play as a team and we follow a certain idea. We’ll stick to that and won’t change on those ideas,” he said.
Roca however hinted of dropping few key players for the tie especially with their AFC Cup match against TC Sports on Tuesday drawing near.
