New Delhi: Chennaiyin FC head coach John Gregory has been suspended for three matches and fined INR 4 Lakhs with immediate effect in the Indian Super League.
Left fuming with anger after Jamshedpur was awarded a soft-penalty, the Englishmen was sent to the stands for protesting vehemently against the decision.
“The All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee found Chennaiyin coach Gregory in breach of Article 50 (misconduct against match officials) and Article 58 (offensive behaviour and fair play) for his offensive remarks to referee during Match # 33 of JFC Vs Chennaiyin FC at JRD Tata Sports Complex on 28th December 2018,” said a media release by the League organisers in Saturday.
Chennaiyin had however gone on to win the match 1-0 after Jeje Lalpekhlua had given them the lead with a composed finish past Indian Spiderman Subrata Paul before Jamshedpur made waste of their penalty, with Belfort hitting the post.
The suspension means Gregory will now have to watch from the stands as Chennaiyin FC battle Delhi Dynamos and FC Pune City at home before travelling to Guwahati for their away fixture against NorthEast United.
Gregory’s suspension is however nothing new in the ISL, with Pune coach Popovic also getting the axe after abusing the referee after his side’s victory against FC Goa.
Delhi Dynamos’ Matias & Mumbai’s Sehnaj suspended, fined.
Claudio Matias of Delhi Dynamos FC and Sehnaj Singh of Mumbai City FC have been suspended for four and two matches respectively for their club’s upcoming games in the Hero Indian Super League. Claudio Matias has also been fined INR 3 Lakhs and Sehnaj Singh INR 2 Lakhs.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) Disciplinary Committee found Dynamos’ Matias and Mumbai City’s Singh in violation of Article 48 (serious infringement) and and Article 49 (misconduct against opponents or persons other than official) during Match # 34 between Mumbai City FC and Delhi Dynamos at Mumbai Football Arena on 29thDecember 2017.
Both the stars had got into a scuffle during the Mumbai, Delhi encounter after Matías’ tackle on the Indian. With their arguments not looking to stop, the referee showed a straight red to both the players but the fight continued even in the tunnel and players of both the sides had to intervene this stop. Mumbai then went on to win the match 4-0.
