Indian Boxing sensation Vijender Singh is well in line with his preparation for the fight against the Australian Professional Boxer, Kerry Hope which is scheduled on July 16, 2016 at Thyagaraj Sports Complex, New Delhi.
The boxer, who remains undefeated in the six appearances he’s made in professional boxing ring, is gearing up for his much awaited first fight at home, wherein he takes on Kerry Hope for WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight Championship title.
A boxer with consistently increasing confidence, Vijender, about this fight, said, “With less than three weeks to go for my maiden title fight, I am really excited to compete in front of my home crowd. Competing in front of my own people will be a very big moment for me and I don’t want to lose this chance. I have started high intensity training two weeks ago to compete in the first ten rounder fight for Asia Pacific title and working hard to win this.”
Speaking about his opponent and hinting about his preparations, he said, “I have seen videos of Kerry, he is a good opponent but I am training really hard to be ready for what my opponent has”.
In his daily training, his coach, Lee Beard has included Shadow Boxing, Sparring between 12 rounds, Working on the heavy bag for 20-30 minutes, Floor Work, Pad Work, Bodysuit Work, Speed Bag, Neck Work with weights, 200 sit-ups, pull-ups, dips, jump rope, double-end bag , 5-8 miles run to increase his body strength, pace as well the moves to put the opponents off-guard.
Speaking about the open challenge put in by Kerry Hope and things he’s doing to take this challenge, Singh said, “If Kerry comes forward and throws shots then anyone who has done that in the past has got knocked out so if he leaves himself open my natural strength will play a big part. Every fight I go into I believe I will win. Doubt is the enemy. I believe he’s not as strong as me and he’s not training like I’m training”.
The boxer claimed confident against the Australian as he wants to win this fight for his fans, who’ll be cheering for him from the spectator galleries.
The fight has been in the pickings of spectators and fans ever since the first phase of tickets were put up for sale on Book My Show. The fight will be telecast live on Start Sports, HD 4 and HotStar.
