Indian athletes started off very well on Day 1 of the Asian Youth Para Games, Dubai 2017 as they won 14 medals including 6 Gold.
The first medal of the day was earned by Astha Tokas in Women’s 100m T13 race. She clocked a total timing of 14.64 seconds to clinch gold medal for India. India had a chance to win both golds in T13 100 m event but Devan Usman could finish with 15.79 sec to secure Bronze in Men’s section.
In 100m T37 Men, Navdeep won the Bronze with a timing of 14.07 sec. In 100m T42/44 Men, Vinay Lal won Gold with a timing of 12.57 seconds. Amit Kumar won Gold in 100m T46 Men with a timing of 11.82sec.
Jayanti Behra gave India their 1st silver of the day by finishing 2nd in 100m T47 with timing 13.48 sec.
Radha Venkatesh finished 2nd in 1500m T11-13 Women event and secured a Silver medal. Her teammate Koratikere Gururaju Keshavamurhty did not start the race. In 1500m T11-13 Men, Rajak Kumar Munna won Gold with a timing of 4:41.02 sec.
At one end Indian athletes were clinching Gold on Tracks, Manu gave India their 1st Gold in Field events in Javelin Throw 35-27 Men. His best attempt of 40.37 meters secured India’s another Gold medal. Akash Mehra finished 4th in Discus 57 Men category with best throw of 26.54 meters. Ram Kumar won Gold in Long Jump T11 Men event with best jump of 4.41 meters.
India clinched a total of 3 medals in swimming as well.
Revathi Nayak won India’s 1st medal in swimming as she won a Bronze in Women 16-18 100 LC Meter Freestyle Multi-Class S6-10 event. Tejaswini Subashree won Silver in Women 16-18 100 LC Meter Breaststroke Multi-Class SB4-9, while Sridhar Malagi added Silver in India’s kitty in Men 17-18 100 LC Meter Breaststroke Multi-Class SB4-9 event.
