Mumbai: Uruguayan striker Sasha Aneff will be seen in action in the third edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) to be held over August-September this year. Aneff will turn out for North East United FC (NEUFC) co-owned by model-actor John Abraham.
Aneff has just been contracted with Syrianska FC in Stockholm County for who he played four matches so far. The 24-year-old’s most successful stint was with Slovenian outfit NK Domzale. He has had 32 appearences for the club and scored nine goals spread over two seasons.
The footballer has also played for clubs like Racing, Defensor Sporting et al. Besides club appearances, he also played for the Uruguayan U-20 side. The opportunistic striker scored a couple of goals in his appearances for Croatian club Ojisek.
It may be recalled that Pune City FC signed Pitu while Mumbai City FC signed Argentine Matias Defederico in the last week. This can be considered another big signing for the cash-rich league which is picking up in the sub-continent which is otherwise thought to be a cricket-loving country.
The league has also seen some top players like Roberto Carlos, Nicolas Anelka, Marco Materazzi, Luis Garcia playing for the city based franchises in the last two seasons.
The NorthEast franchise have their task cut out before they embark on their third journey in the ISL. In the second edition in 2015, they emerged the joint third lowest scorers. Therefore, the inclusion of Uruguayan Sasha Aneff is indeed a step in the right direction before the ensuing third edition.
