Margao: Indian Super League franchise FC Goa registered their first win of the pre-season campaign after a convincing 2-0 victory over Kolkata giants Mohun Bagan at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Thursday. Manuel Lanzarote and Ferran Corominas scored the goals, leading Goa to the win.
Bagan with Kingsley, Norde, Dicka and Yuta Kinowami in the team started with their core bunch as FC Goa missed three of it’s main man in Pronay Halder, Narayan Das and Manvir Singh, all out on national duty.
It was FC Goa however who took the lead two minutes into the match, when Lanzarote’s wonderful chip beat Bagan custodian Shibinraj Kunniyil, to give his side an important lead. Ferran Coro extended Goa’s lead 19 minutes later with a first time shot to make it 2-0. The move started with Seriton Fernandes’ pass to Mandar Rao Desai who send in a low cross for Corominas to score. It could well have been 3-0 in the 30th minute, when a quick one-two between Brandon and Lanzarote resulted in the former’s shot being thwarted away by Bagan substitute goalkeeper Soran Angamba.
The former I-League champions looked out of touch for most part of the match and talisman Sony Norde was their only bright spot, the Haitian however could not inspire his team to a win as Bagan finished their pre-season campaign without a victory.
Mohun Bagan beat ATK 13-0 in U-15 Youth league
Indian Super League franchise ATK may have been successful in pursuing many players away from Mohun Bagan, but did not stand a chance against the U-15 team of the Kolkata giants as the Mariners brushed aside a hapless ATK 13-0 in their opening match of the U-15 Youth League at the Barasat stadium on Thursday.
As many as three hat-tricks were scored in the game as Bagan simply battered ATK. Md. Fardin Ali Molla (18′, 21′, 57′ and 87′) scored four, while captain Shambhu Deb (8′ (P), 13′, 48′) and substitute Surajit Ghosh (67′, 69′ 84′) scored the other two hat-tricks. Sanjoy Oraw, Arnab Sharma and Pintu Murmu all netted a goal each, to help Bagan register a convincing win over the youth side of the two time ISL champions.
