Kolkata: After signing quality Indian footballers in the form of Jewel Raja and Kean Lewis, ISL franchise FC Pune City are looking forward to rope in good foreign recruits and have signed Spanish midfielder Marcos Tebar. Tebar represented the Delhi Dynamos in the 2016 edition of the ISL.
Tebar, who was born in Madrid is a product of the Real Madrid academy and has played for Real Madrid Castilla (B team). He also represented Rayo Vallecano, Segunda Division side Girona FC and Almeria after which he went to England to play for Brentford for a short period in 2016.
He has also played at the U-17 level for Spain and has played alongside top quality footballers like Cesc Fabregas and David Silva in the U-17 World Cup and European Championships.
The 31-year Tebar said that he was looking forward to the challenge. “This is a new challenge for me and playing alongside Antonio Habas and his team will hopefully be an experience to remember. I am looking forward to play for FC Pune City. I am sure the fans will have an exciting season to look forward to as I share the same aim as the team has, that is to win the title this season,” he said.
ISL winning coach Antonio Habas felt that Tebar’s experience of playing in Europe would come in handy for his team in the upcoming edition of the tournament.
He said, “Marcos’ experience of playing at top-flight clubs in Europe will be very useful for the team. His approach to the game is very tactical and at a time when we are forming a new core team, his presence will hopefully make a difference.”
FC Pune City CEO Rajesh Wadhawan too commented on the signing saying, “Marcos is a great addition to our team. He brings in a wealth of experience of playing at top level in Europe coupled with his stint in ISL. With his technical abilities & great defensive work rate, he will control the midfield and be the link to our forward line.”
